Programs at West Michigan Glass Art Center for teens and youth include our Fire Works Education Program, Teen Glass Classes, and Summer Glass Camp. 

Field trips:  Teachers, Homeschool Groups and Youth Groups-Bring your students to West Michigan Glass Art Center for a field trip.  We offer glassblowing or flameworking demonstrations and hands-on glass art activities in glassblowing, fused glass, flameworking, bead making and sandblasting.  Teachers receive instructional materials on the history, chemistry and types of glass.  Class time available during the school day, after school, summertime and weekends.  Prices vary per project, some starting at $15 per student.  Bring your lunches and enjoy a day of art and fun right here in downtown Kalamazoo, Michigan!

Tours and Demonstrations: West Michigan Glass Art Center offers guided tours of our facilities and demonstrations of glass blowing techniques, flameworking, and kiln-fused glass for students, teachers, home school groups, youth groups, and public groups.  See how glass is created by West Michigan Glass Art Center artists!

Team Building:  We offer Team Building with Glass for businesses, clubs and groups.  By planning hands-on team building activities with us, participants can work together while learning new skills that everyone can enjoy.  We can create a program around your budget, time frame and interests.  Perhaps you might enjoy watching a glassblowing demonstration and then your group can then move to a hands-on glass art project.  The great thing about glass is that even if you are not an artist or not "feeling creative," you will be amazed at what you can create!  We have books and ideas to inspire you also. 

A popular glass art project for Team Building is either glass fusing or flameworking.  In glass fusing, participants can create a tile, suncatcher, pendants or the very popular group fused glass panel pictured below. **How the fused glass panel project works:  Everyone in your party will receive a 2" (or whatever size you prefer) clear piece of glass (tile).  Everyone will learn to cut glass and "decorate" their own tile with layers of glass in an abstract or realistic pattern.  We also have containers full of precut glass if someone does not want to cut glass, so so worries!!  Then each person will place their decorated tile onto a large piece of clear glass that has been cut to standard frame sizes, such as 11" x 14".  The tiles and the background clear glass will be placed in the glass fusing kiln and fired overnight resulting in a colorful large fused glass piece.  This piece can then be placed into a frame (remove the glass that comes with the frame) and hang! In our popular flameworking programs, team building participants learn to create colorful pendants or beads.  Groups can also work together in the hot shop to create glass blown items.  Contact our Education Coordinator to discuss the variety of great team building choices that may work for your group or business.

Parties! Celebrate a special day, such as a birthday or shower, at WMGAC and create glass art.
