Stained Glass

   Minimize
Centuries-old technique of assembling separate pieces of colored glass to form a glass panel or window. Common techniques use lead channel (came) to assemble the pieces, or soldering pieces together that have been wrapped with a copper foil tape. Classes include all glass, supplies and tools.

Mosaic Extravaganza

Prerequisite: Age 14 and up, no experience necessary.
Minimum: 3 students   Maximum: 6 students

   Make 3 unique mosaic projects for your garden.  You will explore various mosaic techniques starting with a 14” x 16” wood-base butterfly utilizing symmetrical balance.  Your second project is a beautiful glass mosaic cement stepping stone. To round out your experience, you’ll work on a 3-D bowling ball sized Garden Ball.  To complete all 3 projects in 5 weeks, some work outside of class may be required.





Beginning Stained Glass, The Copper Foil Method

Prerequisite: Age 16 & up.  Little or no experience necessary.
Maximum: 6 students

    Students will learn to work with a pattern, safely use cutting tools, select and fit glass to the pattern, foil the glass and solder the pieces together.  Learn the steps to finish a beautiful 6” x 8” panel so it is ready to hang!  Class may require work outside of class time to complete the project in 4 weeks.










 




Combining Fused and Stained Glass Techniques: Fused Glass Lid on Stained Glass Box

Prerequisite: Age 12 & up, no experience necessary.
$75 members/$95 non-members    
Minimum: 3 students  Maximum: 6 students

  Experiment with the art of kiln fusing and stained glass techniques while learning the basics of both glass mediums. The first week you will learn about kiln fusing tools, how to cut, stack and layer glass, frit and confetti to make the lid for your box.  The last 2 weeks you will be introduced to the copper foil method of stained glass as you complete your 6” x 4” x 2” box and attach the fused art lid.

Flat Panel Lamp

Thursdays, 5 wks, July 31 - Aug 28, 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.  (SG1408)
Prerequisite: Age 16 & up; must have recently created at least one medium sized copper foiled panel.  This is not a beginner level class.
Maximum: 4 students
$190 members/$230 non-members

 Learn to create your own lamp design and pattern, select and cut appropriate glass to fit the pattern, foil the glass, solder the pieces together, and then solder panels together.  You will  finish and wire your lamp so it is ready to use.  After the first class, students will need to complete most of the cutting, foiling and soldering of glass parts for each panel prior to the next weekly class.  In order to do this, students will need to own some basic tools.  You may pre-order a kit from WMGAC for $157 if you don’t already own the required tools.  You will also need to purchase lamp hardware and wiring based on your design after it is completed, estimated cost $50 - $100.
 
WMGAC kit ($157) includes: Safety glasses, glass scorer, 100 Watt Soldering iron, running pliers, grozer pliers, horseshoe nails, fid, 1 lb. 60/40 solder, copper foil, flux and flux brush.
