Stained Glass

   Minimize
Centuries-old technique of assembling separate pieces of colored glass to form a glass panel or window. Common techniques use lead channel (came) to assemble the pieces, or soldering pieces together that have been wrapped with a copper foil tape. Classes include all glass, supplies and tools.

Prerequisite: Age 16 & up.  
Little or no experience necessary.

$150 members/$180 non-members

    Students will learn to work with a pattern, safely use cutting tools, selecting and fitting the glass to the pattern, foiling the glass and soldering the pieces together.  Learn the steps to finish a beautiful 6” x 8” panel so it is ready to hang!

     This class combines the decorative rhythm of wire and glass.  Learn the skills to create a fused glass focal point surrounded by stained glass copper foil construction.  Uniting these three mediums, fused glass, stained glass and wire, we will create a one-of-a-kind sun catcher.






Stained Glass for Beginners

Prerequisite: Age 16 & up, no experience necessary.  
$150 members/ $180 non-members   Max: 6 students

    Begin with an introduction to basic techniques, tools and safety.  Then move on to cut, snip or break the glass to fit your imagination and project as you create a 5” x 7” stained glass panel using simple geometric shapes.  Students will be exposed to stained glass 3-D art and/or contemporary artists each class. Everyone will be encouraged to maintain a sketchbook/journal.  



 


New! Creating Mosaics for the Home Interior: An Introduction

Prerequisite: Grouting and tiling experience a bonus but not needed.

Thursdays,10 weeks, April 11 - June 13, 6 - 9 p.m. (SG1305)

$280 members/$300 non-members    Maximum: 6 students

     Learn the steps and techniques to create custom counter tops, kitchen or bathroom back splashes, stone pavers or just create a piece of art!  Learn about the basic mosaic tools and aspects of grouting from preparing grout to floating it over glass.  We’ll discuss ways to transfer ideas from paper to board. You’ll use a cement backer board to create a mosaic design (minimum size 12” x 32”) of your choice.  This allows for form repetition in the design and the ability to properly learn to float grout.  You will be encouraged to maintain a sketchbook/journal during the class and will come away with a basic knowledge of “how to” plan mosaic projects for the home interior from start to finish.
